PRIVATE LIFEGUARD PRECOURSE ASSESSMENT

An individual/private Lifeguard Prerequisite Swimming Skills Evaluation is offered for the participant who is unable to attend the group assessment offerings.  Lifeguard pre-course mandatory prerequisite swimming skills assessment are valid for 3 months.  Participants must be 15 years of age or older.

LIFEGUARD PRECOURSE – Must successfully complete before enrolling in a Lifeguard class.

Successful completion of the following skills is required in the Pre-course-

1. Swim-Tread-Swim Sequence: Jump into the water from the side, totally submerge, recover to the surface and swim 150yards.  After swimming 150 yds, maintain position at the surface of the water Tread water for 2 minutes using legs only.  After maintaining position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes, swim 50 more yards.
2. Timed Event—Starting in the water, swim 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to surface and swim 20 yards on your back with legs only and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, in 1 minute 40 seconds (goggles are not permitted).

Participants must successfully pass the pre-course test prior to signing up for a Lifeguard Class.  This course is for guarding at facilities where pools have a maximum depth of 5 ft.

1. Swim-Tread-Swim Sequence:  Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both.  After swimming 50 yards, maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes using only legs, floating or both.  After maintaining position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes, swim 50 yeards.
2. Timed Event – Starting in the water, swim 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 5 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to surface and walk or swim 20 yards by holding the object at the surface with both hands and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, in 50 seconds (goggles are not permitted).
