Journalism Camp (Ages 11-13)

Journalism Camp (Ages 11-13)

Ever wonder how journalists do their job?  How does an idea become a news story?  And how do we know when we’re on the trail of a good story?  In this summer program, junior reporters will have fun exploring the world of journalism.  We’ll start by learning the elements of any story by reading and dissecting various news sources.  We will brainstorm ideas for stories and talk about what kind of visuals we can include in reporting.  Expect to do research–via print and online sources.

We’ll practice our interviewing skills and study leads, ‘nut grafs’ and kickers.  Local journalists will ‘drop by’ and talk about what a career in journalism is and can be like.

Held at:  Park Street, YMCA, 25 Park Street, Montclair, NJ
